Classes & Workshops Schedule

To book a class with Mary Lou, contact her at Lattegirl@aol.com

I request a hotel room in a “nice” well known hotel as in Holiday Inn, Embassy Suites, Hyatt, Hilton, Red Lion etc. Clean crisp sheets and comfort is a good thing at my age. My request is a room that opens to the INSIDE of the hotel. I do not feel safe in a hotel that opens to the outside. Thank you for being thoughtful on this. :0)

My charge for a lecture is $500. And for a workshop it is $750. Per day. I request a two day class or two one day classes. I usually come packed with a variety of quilts and it is well worth getting more. I like teaching others to stretch and enjoy their own creativity which we all have. Some people need to know how to find it. These classes are relaxed and fun. I have been teaching since 1988 and I know what to do to get people “out of the box” to do things they did not know they could do. Its all about discovery.

Drawings from Children/artwork from loved ones

Drawings from Children/artwork from loved ones

This is probably one of my most favorite things to teach because I get to see young children's artwork and lovely notes and little cartoons from loved ones.

Bring a piece or many to incorporate into one great quilt. I encourage people to take children's artwork or possibly a note to you with a cartoon or an aplphabet written by a child and turn it into a beautiful, free and out of the box quilt! There are a few secrets and once you start they are so fun to make.

My samples is a quilt by my 7 year old Granddaughter who drew a story in school about a Prince saving a Princess. Many mis-spelled words and such fun! Now that she is older she giggles and I know this quilt will be dear to her in the future and to her children. These are Legacy quilts for sure. Take something you have kept on paper and bring it to make that special quilt others will love too.

Story Quilts - Diary Pieces that LAST

Length: 3 or more days

This is by far Mary Lou’s best and most popular workshop. Mary Lou is a process teacher and with this workshop we work with process, stretching, thought growth, design, colors and how they work with other colors around them, composition and imagination. This class is for the quilter who wants to do something a little more involved (not hard), to develop and stretch and go on the road “less traveled.”

These quilts tell about you, what and who you love and with sentiments and smiles make the viewer know something special about the artist that they didn’t know before. These quilts are crow pleasers and often are winners in quilting venues and shows. This class helps you ”think” of events in your past with a positive, happy outlook and offers up many ideas that tell of you and events you remember. This surprises the artist often and lets process take flight as you stretch and learn as you sew. It is both fun and satisfying too.
